These are probably the best of the few remaining temples from Java's extended Hindu culture past. The temples we built well over a 1000 years ago, however, almost as soon as they were completed they were abandoned to the jungle, were badly damaged by a massive earthquake sometime in the 16th century but have, to a large extent, now been restored.
Unfortunately, it was a cloudy damp day (but as humid as Hell) and so the shots of the temples themselves are a bit flat and not very inspiring. However, I've included these two to give an idea of what the whole thing looks like.
Although the temples themselves are most impressive, it is the amount and detail of the fine carving on them that is really impressive.
