Trentham Gardens are formal Italianate gardens, part of an English landscape park. The gardens are set within a large area of woodland. Together these currently together cover some 300 acres and were designed as a serpentine park by Capability Brown from 1758.
In 2000, the gardens were in ruins and were vandalised. It apparently cost about 120 million to restore them. I mean, I like them and everything, but I really can't see where 120 million quid went!
Anyway, as I say, I liked it and thought the standard of horticulture was infinitely higher than the much more famous Alnwick gardens... Just shows what a bit of Harry Potter can do! It's exactly what the company who runs it say they wanted... A gentle and genuine experience. v. nice.
